Dental ImplantsFind out how getting dental implants in Gig Harbor could spell the end of tooth loss.

Looking for a solution to your tooth loss? Find out how your Gig Harbor dentist, Dr. Peter Elton can help you replace those missing teeth for good.

Replacing one tooth

If you only need to replace one missing permanent tooth then you’ll only need one dental implant. The first leg of your treatment will require us to surgically place the dental implant under the gums. Under local anesthesia, we will drill a small hole into the jawbone where the implant will then be carefully placed. Once the gums are stitched up we will give your mouth several weeks to heal.

During this healing phase, the bone and tissue surrounding the implant will begin to grow around it, making it a permanent structure within your mouth. Once this is complete, we will open the gums back up to place an abutment, or connector, on top. The abutment will then allow us to connect the artificial tooth to the implant.

Replacing multiple teeth

If you are looking to replace several missing teeth we will place that many dental implants into the jawbone, and again give the implants time to heal. Once this is complete we will uncover the implants and secure a custom dental bridge on top.

Replacing all teeth

This is very similar to replacing multiple teeth. The only difference is that instead of supporting a dental bridge your implants will support a full set of dentures. It usually takes anywhere from four to eight implants to support a full set of dentures. Once the implants are placed it will take anywhere from two to six months for the jawbone to bond with your implants. Once this has occurred, your permanent dentures can be placed. However, while the bone and tissue are bonding with your implants your Gig Harbor dentist Dr. Elton will offer a temporary tooth replacement option to wear in the meantime.
